Hønefoss

Hønefoss

The municipality of Ringerike features the spectacular Tyrifjorden, bare mountains, vast forests, cultural landscapes, lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams – simply Norway in a nutshell. It is located in the eastern part of Buskerud county, with Hønefoss as its administrative centre. Hønefoss is an important hub for car, train, and bus travel. Ringerike is a medium-sized urban municipality, and is the country’s main forestry region with largely timber-based business and industry. However, agriculture is also an important sector, and industries like manufacturing, trade, and service are on the rise.
In Hønefoss (administrative centre), history and archaeology go hand in hand, and impressive finds from the Bronze Age are on display at Veien Cultural Heritage Park along with cultural and historical collections at Ringerikes Museum. The municipality is a hub for car, bus and train travel, and is located a mere 50 kilometres north-west of Oslo. A new road and railway track will soon be ready, and this will make the region even easier for visitors to reach.

Culture and entertainment are important activities in the community, and “Hønefossrevyen” at “Gledeshuset” is one of Norway’s most popular summer shows. With its performing arts colleges and plenty of musical talent, this town is an exciting melting-pot set along its main artery – river Begna and its waterfall.  Running through the heart of town, this is a spectacular sight and is the basis on which this local community is built.

Located approx. 45 minutes from Oslo, and 60 minutes from Oslo Airport.
