Sokndal

Just south of Egersund, lies the municipality of Sokndal. The municipality is part of the Magna UNESCO Global Geopark, the second European geopark in the Nordic countries. Sokndal was one of the first municipalities in the Nordic countries to become a part of the International movement “Cittaslow”. The idea behind the initiative was to slow down a hectic lifestyle and focus on quality of life and having a good life. In Sokndal you are allowed to be different and a little bit crazy. They organize a festival called “The week of love» every autumn, where the emphasis is on important issues close to your heart.

Jøssingfjorden is located in Sokndal, and is a fjord known for «Altmakrsaffæren» which was the first action of war in Norway in 1940. You’ll find one of the most iconic houses, under «Helleren» where people has been living from the 1500- to the late 1900’s. Not far away from Jøssingfjorden, you’ll find “Ruggesteinen” which is the biggest moveable block of stone in Northern-Europe at 74 tons!

In other words, Sokndal has a lot to offer. The municipality doesn’t have tourists, only guests!
